BREAKING: Parma declared bankrupt

BREAKING: Parma declared bankrupt
The Italian side, who finished sixth in Serie A last season, now face an uncertain future after legal action was taken over their perilous financial affairs

Debt-ridden Parma have been declared bankrupt following a 10-minute hearing on Thursday.
Roberto Donadoni's men have been rock-bottom of Serie A all season as they have been wracked with financial problems off the pitch.

Wednesday's arrest of current president Giampietro Manenti for alleged fraud and money laundering was the latest incident to cast a long shadow over the club.

Their fall from grace has been swift and painful - after being denied a Europa League spot in 2014-15 due to an unpaid tax bill, then owner Tommaso Ghirardi sold his stake to Rezart Taci for €1.

Just two months later, however, Taci sold his share in the club to Manenti for the same price and their financial situation has only worsened in the interim.

Wages for players and staff have been repeatedly unpaid, resulting in the docking of points in Serie A, and the club are destined for relegation this season as they are 16 points from safety with 13 games to go.
