The Rossoneri boss says he can not turn his club's
fortunes around overnight, after their 1-1 draw with Fiorentina at San
Siro on Sunday
AC Milan coach Filippo Inzaghi says making his team great will take time, after his side drew 1-1 at home against Fiorentina on Sunday.
The Rossoneri took the lead in the 25th minute through a close-range Nigel de Jong header, but could not hold on for all three points, with Josip Ilicic equalising for the Viola in the second half.
Milan now lie in sixth place in Serie A, although only one point behind Udinese in third - the final spot which grants entry to Champions League qualification.
“I think Milan played on Fiorentina’s level," Inzaghi told Sky Sport Italia.
"I know we have to improve and build attacking moves better, but we are slowly getting on to the right path.
"I think we did everything we could tonight and you can’t build a whole new team in just two months. We are trying to get Milan back to being great, but it takes time.
“If someone had said in pre-season we’d be in front of Napoli, Inter and Fiorentina, then nobody would’ve believed them.
“The result is a little disappointing, but getting this result against a Fiorentina side who have been targeting third place since the start of the season is impressive.
“It was a balanced game and we have some regrets, as we conceded that goal from nowhere by Ilicic.
"We were coming off two consecutive victories and went close to a third, as aside from the goal we ran very few risks and it was our best defensive performance of the season.
“There are many reasons to be pleased with this performance, but we conceded due to a poor clearance in midfield.
“Now we have to focus our attention on [the next league game against] Cagliari, as that is not going to be easy.”
The 41-year-old also defended summer loan signing Fernando Torres, who was dropped to the bench for the fixture in favour of Jeremy Menez.
“Torres is exactly as we expected, he needs some time," he added.
"I have to make choices and tonight I went for Menez, who did well, while I thought the final stages were the right time for Torres to make an impact.
“We are missing Montolivo, who is fundamental for creating the play from midfield with his technical skills.
The players are doing everything I ask and don’t forget we had lost to Fiorentina for the last three years here."
