Milan victory a step forward - Cambiasso

Milan victory a step forward - Cambiasso
The Argentine is refusing to look at the Serie A table but is delighted to have gone into the winter break with a morale-boosting win over the Rossoneri

Inter midfielder Esteban Cambiasso believes his side took a step forward by beating AC Milan 1-0 at home on Sunday.

A late Rodrigo Palacio goal saw the Nerazzarri take all three points against their city rivals and go five points off the Champions League places, but the Argentine is refusing to get ahead of himself.

"The standings? We're not looking at the table. This game is just a step forward for us," he is quoted as saying by the club's official site.

"We expected our opponents to fade a bit after the break. They did a lot of harrying in the first half and we found it hard to move the ball around when we were trying to get it out wide quickly.

"But it's hard to maintain a high pressing game for the whole 90 minutes and so we used that to our advantage in the second period. It's a huge joy for us - both us and the fans - because it's always good to head into the holidays with a smile.

"Winning a derby is always fantastic, it means so much and we know that. Tomorrow the fans will be able to go into work with smiles on their faces."

Club president Erick Thohir visited the dressing room after the match and Cambiasso is delighted with the Indonesian businessman's attitude since taking over from Massimo Moratti earlier this year.

"Moratti has placed this team in good hands. I've got to know Thohir and I know this might be hard to explain but you can tell he's driven by so much passion.

"We were all very happy after the final whistle. The president was delighted as all Interisti are. There's more to talk about when you don't win.

"When you go home with the three points, you've earned the right to enjoy it knowing that you gave your all."
