Wenger slams 'pathetic & dreadful' Chelsea fans in Paris Metro controversy

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has described the Chelsea fans involved in a racist incident on the Paris Metro as "pathetic" and "dreadful".

A handful of supporters were filmed pushing a black man off a packed carriage at Richelieu-Drouot station on Tuesday, before chanting "we're racist and that's the way we like it".

Chelsea have identified three supporters and suspended them from Stamford Bridge in a strongly worded statement vowing to support any legal action after the victim called for the protagonists to be "locked up".

"It looked pathetic and dreadful - unfortunately we have all kinds of that but we have to be extremely severe with any incident of that calibre," he told reporters.

"It is society's problem. Nobody has found a miraculous solution but it starts from childhood and education.

"There is a danger of radical people in every society - there is always a number of people ready for radical solutions and you have to find a way to deal with that."

Wenger was asked if Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has a duty to publicly condemn the behaviour of those deemed guilty, to which he replied: "I don't think managers agree with that type of behaviour.
"Everybody has to be against that type of behaviour, it's absolutely ridiculous."
Chelsea will continue their investigation, insisting banning orders for life will be served if sufficient evidence is found, while Uefa not be punishing the club as the incident occured away from the stadium.
