The Belgian stars are now considered among the best
in the world in their positions, but the former manager has revealed
hesitation from others saw Spurs miss out on their targets
Harry Redknapp has claimed Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois both wanted to join Tottenham before eventually ending up at Chelsea.
During his time at Lille, Spurs had made Hazard a top target and had been pursuing him during the second half of 2011-12 before he opted to join Chelsea following their Champions League win.
Courtois, also now at Chelsea having displaced Petr Cech as first-choice goalkeeper, was another early target but Redknapp feels hesitation beyond his control saw deal to join Tottenham evaporate.
"I was with Hazard in Paris, four hours I spent with him. He wanted to come to Tottenham, but the deal dragged on and didn't happen," he told talkSPORT.
"The goalkeeper, Courtois, we had him for next to nothing when he was 17 and that was another deal that dragged on forever and we didn't get it over the line. He should have been at Tottenham.
"If we had of bought one or two players in at that time that we could have got, I felt we would have had a team capable of winning the league."
