France coach Didier Deschamps believes the form of Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema bodes well for his side ahead of this summer's World Cup.

The former Lyon attacker scored twice in Real's 4-3 Clasico defeat against Barcelona on Sunday and already has 23 goals to his name for Carlo Ancelotti's side this season.

Deschamps is hopeful Benzema can repeat his impressive displays at club level for Les Bleus in Brazil and has little doubt the Madrid man will shine at the World Cup.

"Karim Benzema is in great shape for his team, even if on Sunday they were unhappy with their defeat," Deschamps told RTL.

"He has always had great potential. He is in a very good physical condition, is full of confidence and has regained his efficiency in front of goal.

"It will be great if he can keep up this level with his club for the remainder of the season and it bodes well for the World Cup."

France face Honduras in their Group E opener in Porto Alegre on June 15, before games against Switzerland and Ecuador.
