Ronaldo dreaming of World Cup glory

Ronaldo dreaming of World Cup glory
The Portuguese admits he would love to follow in the footsteps of club team-mate Iker Casillas by winning the international tournament next year

Cristiano Ronaldo says winning the World Cup would surpass all of his previous achievements but dismissed the idea he could be distracted by the competition as he bids to win trophies with Real Madrid.

Ronaldo scored a hat-trick in the second-leg of Portugal's play-off clash with Sweden in November to fire his nation to next summer's tournament.

The Seleccao will not be among the favourites to reach the latter stages of the tournament, but that hasn't stopped the 28-year-old from dreaming of following in the footsteps of Madrid team-mate Iker Casillas by winning the famous trophy.

Speaking to AS Ronaldo said: “Iker doesn’t need to tell me what it’s like, I know what it’s like to lift the Champions League trophy so winning a World Cup must be even better, you would never forget it.

"My dream and that of everyone here is to win something as important as the World Cup but we have to keep our feet on the ground, I hope Portugal can be among the best.

“There’s still a long way to go to the World Cup and I am focused on my club, I want to win everything and then we’ll see about the World Cup."

Portugal were drawn alongside Germany, Ghana and the USA in a competitive looking Group G at Friday's World Cup draw and Ronaldo admitted his country have their work cut out in advancing.

"It's a very difficult group, Germany are always candidates to win tournaments, and the USA and Ghana are very good teams.

"Our priority is to qualify from the group and then see what happens. We have to acknowledge it will be difficult but I believe we can overcome them."
