Robben set for Bayern Munich contract extension - Rummenigge

The 58-year-old is delighted with the Dutchman's form this season and is set to offer him a new deal, despite the winger's current absence through injury

Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has expressed his confidence that Arjen Robben will extend his current contract with the club.

The Dutchman, who is currently in the midst of a six-week absence through injury, has started the season in superb form, netting 13 goals in 19 games - already matching his tally for last season.

The 29-year-old attacker's contract at the Allianz Arena expires in the summer of 2015 but Rummenigge says Robben has no need to worry about his long-term future at the club.

"We are very happy with Arjen," the former West Germany star told Sport1.

"Though he should be out for six weeks, our opinion of him has not changed. We've also been known to extend injured players' contracts."

Indeed, the 58-year-old is hopeful that Robben could retire at the club, adding: "We can imagine that very well."

Robben, who joined Bayern from Real Madrid in 2009, played a key role in last season's treble triumph, scoring a late goal in the Champions League final win over Borussia Dortmund.
