Lahm: Germany could easily have beaten Italy

The Bayern Munich skipper felt Joachim Low's men were the better side in Milan, but Toni Kroos was pleased with the intensity of the game

Philipp Lahm feels Germany could easily have beaten Italy in Friday's international friendly at San Siro had they converted their chances.

Mats Hummels gifted Joachim Low's men an early lead when he found the net after just eight minutes, but Ignazio Abate restored parity before the break to help Italy claim a 1-1 draw.

"Overall, we were the better team. We had better chances and hit the post in the last second.

"We did a lot of things well but it can still get better than this."

Toni Kroos, meanwhile, was pleased with Germany's display, though he acknowledged that the home side played their part in a hard-fought friendly.

"You could tell that both sides wanted to win it. It was a very intense game," the attacking midfielder mused.

"It's always good to have tests like this, to see what we still need to improve on and what we are doing well."

Germany will be looking to return to winning ways on Tuesday when they take on England.
