Blatter's Ronaldo comments have backfired, says Di Stefano

The Argentine icon has taken a swipe at the Fifa president before voicing his admiration for the prolific attacker

Real Madrid legend Alfredo Di Stefano believes Cristiano Ronaldo is the favourite to win the Fifa Ballon d'Or and added that Sepp Blatter's derisory comments about the Portugal international have "backfired".

The Fifa president jokingly described Ronaldo as "a commander on the field of play" before suggesting the the Madrid front man"spends more time at the hairdresser" when stating his preference for Barcelona attacker Lionel Messi.

Di Stefano was not impressed with the 77-year-old's comments, though, and feels his remarks have come back to haunt him.

"Blatter was trying to be funny and it backfired," Di Stefano was quoted as saying by Marca.

"The Ballon d'Or should go to Cristiano Ronaldo. He's doing a really good job. He's a phenomenon, number one, an extraordinary player.

"Ronaldo is the best. He's a truly spectacular, very complete player, with enormous power. Opponents fear him."

The 28-year-old has been in sublime form so far this term, netting 25 goals in 18 appearances in all competitions.
