Suarez injury rocks Anderlecht

The 25-year-old pulled up before his team's draw with Standard Liege and he will now not play again until next season

Anderlecht winger Matias Suarez will miss the rest of the season after tearing the cruciate ligaments in his right knee.

The Argentine pulled up injured ahead of his side's 1-1 draw against Standard Liege on Sunday, with further diagnosis revealing the full extent of the problem.

He has now issued a statement insisting that he will not be discouraged by the injury as he looks to recover as soon as possible.

"To all the people in and outside the club who support me, I say: 'Don't worry, I will not let my head drop. I will return'," he was quoted as saying by Uefa.com.

Meanwhile, right-back Guillaume Gillet also suffered a setback after sustaining a flesh wound in his left knee during the encounter with the Belgian Pro League leaders.

According to the club, the 29-year-old's wound has been "thoroughly cleaned and stitched" and he is expected to make a return within a matter of weeks.
