Mazzarri no-show after Torino thriller

Inter leave it to club director Marco Branca to speak to reporters after a number of decisions left the players and coach "perplexed"

Walter Mazzarri refused to speak to the press after taking exception to a number of refereeing decisons as Inter were held to a 3-3 draw with Torino.

The Nerazzurri saw goalkeeper Samir Handanovic sent off early on after conceding a penalty and director Marco Branca cited the decision as just part of the reason behind the coach’s no-show.

“He was irritated by the way the game went and certain decisions as we all are,” Branca told Sky Sport Italia after the full-time whistle.

“We can start from the penalty, then a few free kicks given and not given. The refereeing left us somewhat perplexed.”

Inter’s main qualm came with the decision of referee Daniele Doveri to send off Handanovic after he had brought down Alessio Cerci in the fifth minute.

Branca suggested that, while a penalty was the right call, the dismissal was unjust.

“Everyone has their opinion. There have been incidents in the past that were treated differently," he said.

“I think a few minutes into the game the referee could’ve controlled the situation better, especially as there was already a penalty.

"We are not contesting the spot-kick, but a yellow card would have been enough.”

Substitute keeper Juan Pablo Carrizo saved Cerci’s ensuing effort and, even though Inter’s 10 men came away with a point, preventing Torino from registering their first victory over the Nerazzurri in 19 years, Branca noted that they need to be producing better results if they are to achieve their goals.

“We needed to become competitive again this season," Branca continued. "We are satisfied with the work of the coach and the players, so we are developing a good campaign.

"This is why we’re so disappointed as this sort of work deserves more concentration from everyone.

“We are not offending anyone; we are simply expressing how perplexed we are.

“It’s a shame for the players and the coach after a game like that to drop points, especially after an undeserved defeat to Roma.”
