After his public diatribe of the former France
left-back, the defender has been called to a meeting with les Bleus
coach Didier Deschamps and the federation's president
Patrice Evra has been asked to explain remarks he made in a television interview he gave in France to the French Football Federation (FFF).
The Manchester United left-back launched a scathing attack on Bixente Lizarazu when he spoke to Telefoot, describing the former France defender and other detractors as "parasites".
And in the aftermath, the FFF have summoned the national team captain to a meeting with Noel Le Graet and Didier Deschamps.
A statement on the FFF website read, "Following comments made by Patrice Evra in an interview with Telefoot in line with the match between France and Finland, President Noel Le Graet and coach Didier Deschamps, after noting that no attack had been made against the FFF, the France team, his coach and his players, have decided to ask Patrice Evra to come to explain some statements that have been broadcast.”
Deschamps came out to explain why the former captain has been called in front of the two-man panel, stating that while there has been no direct attack on the national team, there are behavioural issues that need to be addressed.
"With the president (Noel Le Graet), Patrice Evra will be asked for explanations," the national coach told Canal+.
"I watched the contents of the interview this morning but even if I understand what he wanted to mean… this has caused a problem with other people. It’s between Patrice Evra, Pierre Menes and the other three that are mentioned.
“The proliferation of media is not easy. I’m not giving excuses for Evra, but it’s hard. This is a slip up anyway. I know the man and the player, but I would have the same attitude with all players.
"Afterwards, they are accountable for their actions and their words. That doesn’t excuse the content of his words, but there is a context with everything that happened during the last time with the France team."
Patrice Evra began a verbal tirade against all those that had criticised him since his return to the national team, attacking not just Lizarazu, but Canal+ journalists Luis Fernandez and Pierre Menes too.
“I do not want to give him importance,” said Evra of Menes.
“I hope to see him someday, because he talked about my family. He said that I would sell my mother to play for the French team.
“I hope to get him one of these days. The day he manages eight keepie uppies, I will end my career."
The 32-year-old was stripped of his country's captaincy after he led a player walkout during the 2010 World Cup and after this latest episode, Deschamps felt it necessary to reiterate that Evra has no chance of winning back the armband.
He added: "With me, Patrice Evra will never be captain, he knows it. That is that. But he still has a role to play."
