Schweinsteiger doubtful for Hannover clash

Schweinsteiger doubtful for Hannover clash
The Germany international is on his way back after spending the past few weeks on the sidelines, but this weekend's game could come too soon

Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola will possibly have to make do without the services of Bastian Schweinsteiger when they take on Hannover at the weekend as the midfielder is still some way off regaining top fitness.

The Germany international picked up an ankle injury in the 1-1 draw against Freiburg back in August and was consequently forced to miss out on his club's European Super Cup triumph over Chelsea.

Bayern have now announced that Schweinsteiger has resumed training with the first-team squad, but the visit of Mirko Slomka's men may come too soon for the 29-year-old, who played a crucial role in Bayern's treble-winning 2012-13 campaign.

"Schweinsteiger remains a doubt for the Bundesliga match against Hannover due to injury. However, the Germany midfielder is recovering well. On Tuesday morning the FCB vice-captain returned to the main training pitch," a statement on the Bayern website reads.

However, Arjen Robben will be available to feature at the Allianz Arena after returning early from international duty with Netherlands due to a suspension.

The Dutchman sustained a knee injury in the win over Chelsea, but is back to full fitness after already featuring for Oranje in the 2-2 draw versus Estonia last week.

"Everything's fine again. I just had to take it easy for a couple of days," Robben told the club's official website.
"The Hannover clash is a very important game, and we have to win. We will have to work hard in the couple of days we have."
