Song: Tito news hit us hard
The Barcelona midfielder has admitted that his side struggled to get over the 44-year-old resignation but is looking forward to Tata Martino's reign

Barcelona midfielder Alex Song has admitted that Tito Vilanova's resignation as coach left the whole team feeling down.

The 44-year-old was forced to stand down from his post as he continues receiving treatment for cancer and was subsequently replaced by Tata Martino.

And while the former Arsenal star is looking forward to working with the Argentine, he says Vilanova's absence took a long time to get over.

"Not having Tito here with us is really bad news. He’s a great guy and all of us feel very sad; but we have to continue going forward and hope that he returns soon," he told reporters before his side's originally-postponed friendly with Lechia Gdansk.

"When we heard the news about Tito, it really affected us. We were all very down about it and at the time, we really didn’t feel like playing this game but we have had a few days to gather our thoughts and we have to go forward.

"We’re looking forward to the match and we’re going to continue fighting, just like Tito must do.

"[Martino] seems like a good person, we are just starting to get to know him. The objective will be the same under him as it always is at Barca. The team will be trying to win every competition we enter."

Song also reiterated his belief that former Gunners team-mate Cesc Fabregas will stay at the club, despite heavy interest from Manchester United.

"He looks really focused to me. I think he’ll continue with us here at Barca."
