Ambrosini picked up a knock shortly before the break and was forced to stay behind in the dressing-room at half-time.

The holding midfielder underwent further examination on Monday and it has now been revealed that he will be out of action for a while.

"AC Milan would like to communicate that Massimo Ambrosini sprained his right ankle during the match against Juventus and has suffered some ligament damage," a statement on the club's website reads.

Christian Abbiati, meanwhile, had to be taken off after 15 minutes of play due to a calf injury and will be also be unavailable for an indefinite period of time.

"Christian Abbiati, meanwhile, has strained his right calf. Both will have a better idea of how long their recovery time will be further into the week."
